These recent photographs of the Royal Roads grounds were graciously provided by Shelley Langille who has worked for Royal Roads University for over 20 years and is currently Military and Strategic Sector Liaison. She is a good friend of my wife Brenda who works in RMC’s Division of Continuing Studies - they first met during education fairs promoting distance learning for CF members held at CFB Esquimalt.
Shelley, who lost her grandfather in WWII, indicates that the banner photograph in the Italian Gardens at the cenotaph is of a ceremony recognizing the anniversary of the sinking of HMCS Athabaskan in 1944 and honouring those who attended the college who lost their life in that action. The Remembrance Day ceremonies are attended by the Ex-Cadets from the Vancouver Island Branch. The Sunset Ceremony at the bottom of the page, which includes then MARPAC Comd RAdm Truelove and former RRU President Dr Allan Cahoon was from 2015 and recognized the 75th Anniversary of the College (55 as RRMC and 20 as RRU).
