Jim Kightley, who was in the honour guard on the end nearest the Boeing CC-137, recalls that once the Queen was finished and ready to leave, she was at the top of the stairs waiting to board the aircraft. However, Prince Philip was still chatting to people at the bottom of the boarding stairs. Jim says from his vantage point, he could hear the Queen tapping her foot impatiently on the metal stairs above him. Prince Philip apparently heard the tapping as well, obviously realized it was time to go, and literally ran up the stairs after her!
